A Summer in Le Havre 2024: A Summer Rendezvous with Contemporary Art
Published on
Art in the Heart of the City
Every summer, renowned contemporary artists, both French and international, are invited to deliver their vision of Le Havre through in-situ creations. Their works dot the city, encouraging strollers to engage in artistic and sensory exploration.
The permanent collection of Un Été au Havre includes 16 works and installations which have now become an integral part of the visual and cultural identity of the city. Among them, the famous Catena of Containers by Vincent Ganivet, which transformed the Southampton quay, and the hypnotic water jets of the work Impact by Stéphane Thidet, located in front of the Volcano. On the beach, the graphic work of Lang/Baumann attracts attention, while the imposing 7 meter high sculpture by Izumi Kato, on Place Saint-Vincent de Paul, leaves no one indifferent. Erwin Wurm's Narrow House, at Square Claude Érignac, with its surprising dimensions of 18 meters long and 1.40 meters wide, offers a unique experience to visitors.
Exhibitions and Key Locations
The 2024 edition will also see exhibitions in emblematic places such as MuMa, the André Malraux museum of modern art. In the city center, near the station, Le Portique, a space dedicated to contemporary art, is also involved in the event.
Gaël Charbau, Artistic Director of Un Été Au Havre
"Beyond an “art journey through the city”, I wanted the art itself to travel through the city and cross it, like a thrill. That it goes beyond the border between private and public spaces, that it extends into new neighborhoods, that it delicately overflows from the summer season."
